In part two of this series, Jeanette details how to elevate your existing style to match your new home and how to branch out on a budget using examples from Erris Homes' show home, The Newsam.
Part of the Excellence Collection, the Newsam is a stunning 4-5 bedroom detached home boasting an enhanced specification as standard. Spread over three floors, the Newsam home also presents two lounges, a contemporary open-plan kitchen-diner, and a trendy home office all dressed by Jeanette using furniture from the Bramham show home.
Jeanette completely designed the main family lounge and the third bedroom in the Newsam using the existing colour palette from the Bramham home.
How can I incorporate new furniture?
Colour palette
Despite what other interior designers may say, you can step outside the box of your colour palette, as shown in the study room of the Newsam. We were able to incorporate the darker hues of blue and green which run throughout the home with a new pattern and palette in the form of a cosy monochrome houndstooth armchair. This not only separates the room from the rest of the house, which is what everyone needs when working from home, but also shows that homeowners can have a little fun when furnishing a new home as long as they don’t stray too far from the existing colour palette.
The Newsam also presented us with an opportunity to design a completely new bedroom due to the addition of a fourth room on the top floor. This bedroom is a personal favourite of mine because it’s very age and gender neutral and mixes all the colours that flow throughout the home – teal, grey, and even orange to represent Erris Homes! It’s more playful as it’s covered with patterns of sausage dogs, but it still matches the sophisticated and contemporary feel of the Newsam because it is a natural progression of the colour palette.
How can I do all this on a budget?
Core décor
When I designed interior of the Newsam, I wanted to get as much as I could out of the budget to reflect the circumstances of people who would typically be upsizing at Rosemeade. It is highly unlikely that a family would be able to throw away their current furniture and buy everything fresh, plus it’s bad for the planet!
I would wholly recommend investing in a good sofa, a dining table, beds, and headboards that you can use as your core décor pieces. If it’s going to work, add to it. Everything else you can pick up as you go along, grabbing a bargain as you go.
Homes in the Excellence Collection also come complete with a fitted wardrobe in the master bedroom which is fantastic as you can play around with your style a lot more. The days are gone where you need a matching wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables – a fitted wardrobe allows you to be a lot more flexible with your décor!
Team up
We worked hard to make the Newsam look stylish and contemporary. On the surface it may look like it would cost a lot to pull together, but the reality of it is very different.
If you team a few staple pieces such as TV cabinets and sofas with affordable items of furniture and décor, the more costly items can really elevate the rest of the room. For example, the little black mesh coffee table in the living room is kind of invisible, but it is highly functional and helps tie the room together – and it was only from IKEA! It’s really easy to filter items such as these into a room and they don’t break the bank.
