Down to earth

One of 2020’s biggest crazes, natural earthy tones are still a hot trend as we move into the summer months. Whereas winter trends favoured muted grey and beige colour palettes, we’re going to see more playful shades of dusky pinks and sage greens hitting our Instagram feeds this summer.

Take inspiration from Pantone’s Intoxicating and Summer Bouquet colour palettes, which infuse crisp aqua and delicate lavender shades with blush pinks and soft greens, and pair with natural materials such as wafer-thin linen and rattan to add a faint retro whiff of 1960s Miami.

Textured walls

This trend has been on the radar for a while, but it’s undeniable that textured walls have never been as popular as they are in 2021. From shaker-style panelling to wooden beams and exposed brick, tactile walls can instantly elevate the design of a room - and they don’t have to cost a fortune!

Dried flowers

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, pampas grass will have been all over your Instagram and Pinterest feed in recent months. An evolution of our never-ending obsession with houseplants and the recent emergence of the cottagecore trend, dried flowers are the must-have item of décor this summer.

Fluffy pampas plumes, dried palm spears and preserved flowers pair perfectly with both botanical-themed environments and minimalistic, neutral décor. This trend is endlessly versatile, and the good news is these plants last up to two years - making them a smart investment with prices from only £8.50!

Love your curves

As we see a surge in softened colour palettes, we’re also seeing a rise in the popularity of smooth, rounded furnishings and accessories.

Curvy, stem-bent, and scalloped shapes add a welcoming and gentle feel to furniture design and home décor, especially when paired with neutral colours and natural materials. These soft shapes and understated palettes create a soothing and relaxing environment – exactly what we need in our homes after the past year!

The beauty of this trend is that you can go as big or as subtle as you like. Start small with a chic statement vase or go the extra mile with this curved sofas, rugs, and chairs.

If 2020 taught us anything, it was that fluidity between the indoors and the outdoors is key! As we collectively yearn for the great outdoors, garden furniture sales have sky-rocketed and botanical décor has become a staple in homes across the globe.

If you want to embrace the trend of bringing the outdoors in, embrace furniture and accessories made of natural materials such as bamboo, rattan, and organic cotton. Additionally, try and stick to a neutral, earthy colour palette - green is the breakthrough colour of 2021!
