A family connection brings Ashley home to Greetland

For homebuyer Ashley O’Shea, moving to Calder Mews in Greetland was about more than finding the right new home for his family. It meant returning to the area where he grew up and following in his mum’s footsteps.

Ashley and his young family moved to Phase II at Calder Mews from nearby Southowram, choosing a four-bedroom detached Harewood house. His mum, Julie O’Shea, had already made the move to Phase I of the development, just around the corner. “I went to school in Greetland, so I’ve always known what a good area it is for families and how good the local schools are,” he says. “It was somewhere I was very happy growing up, so it made sense to come back.”

He also spent much of his childhood playing cricket at the local club, which happens to sit just beyond the development.

“I played cricket there when I was younger, so being able to look out and see the cricket ground is quite nostalgic,” he says. “Sometimes you can hear the matches being played, and you can see through the trees from the back garden. It takes me back.”

A home designed around family life

Ashley chose the three-storey Harewood, attracted by its generous layout and the way the main living spaces connect with the garden.

“The open-plan kitchen, dining and living space was a big selling point for us,” he says. “We spend most of our time in that room as a family. My two kids both really like the house and its space.”

With two young children, aged six and eight, having plenty of space to spend time together was important, while Ashley also needed somewhere he could work comfortably from home.

“I work from home quite a lot, and the Harewood has an excellent study that works really well as an office.”

Outside, the garden provides another important part of the home. Backing onto woodland, it gives the family a sense of seclusion.

“It’s really private at the back, which was another thing we liked. Having the woodland behind the garden makes a big difference.”

Close to family, close to home

With Julie living nearby in Phase I, the move has also brought the family closer together while giving Ashley and his family a home of their own.

Ashley has now recommended a friend to Calder Mews himself, continuing the family’s connection with Erris Homes through the Recommend a Friend scheme.

“Colin in Erris Homes’ after-sales team has been really good,” says Ashley. “He’s been very responsive whenever we’ve needed anything. I’ve already recommended Calder Mews to a friend, so they’ll be moving here too.”
