Spring trends to revive your home

Spring is on its way, and with it is an exciting array of gorgeous new interior and décor trends for the modern home.

From natural sun-kissed materials to rich velvets and slim gold-trimmed feature pieces, there are a variety of colours and textures to play with this season, and a trend for every taste.

Artistic twenties glamour

We’ve seen this trend creeping up on us for a while, but plush fabrics and decadent twentieth-century furniture are set to be a must-have this spring.

A direct contrast to minimalist trends, the art-deco look is inspired by the outrageous opulence and glamour of the roaring twenties. You don’t have to go all the way with this trend to add a touch of lavishness to your home – pair bold patterns with a rich-coloured scalloped chair or indulge in a gold and marble side table for an effortless yet sophisticated look.

In light of Pantone’s appraisal of Living Coral, pink and orange hues are set to reign supreme throughout the sunny seasons this year. This trend takes inspiration from earthy-coloured clay materials and puts particular emphasis on warmer shades to create a calming and welcoming environment. Sun-drenched tones such as terracotta, umber and a deep saffron pair perfectly with eclectic global-inspired prints, rustic ceramic pottery and luxurious soft furnishings with tassels and pom-poms.

Line art

Twenties décor isn’t the only thing making a comeback this season – minimalist line drawings reminiscent of Picasso and Matisse are finding themselves on everything from wall hangings to decorative plates.

These simple yet impressive pieces depict faces and body parts hand-drawn in clean, bold lines, and are typically presented on plain white canvases for maximum impact. This trend is ideal for minimalists looking to invoke a striking sense of wonderment and intrigue in common areas or add an intimate and sensual touch to bedrooms and bathrooms.

Sustainability

Sustainability has never been as popular as it is in 2019, and spring is the perfect time to add new life to old pieces of furnishings that have lost their spark. Whether you’re modifying a chest of drawers you already own or hunting down pieces in a charity shop jungle, upcycled furniture is a great way to add character and personality to your home without breaking the bank.

Don’t be fooled into thinking upcycling is simply giving an old cabinet a lick of paint! Experiment with bold printed sticky-back plastic on wooden crates to create a unique storage box or try repurposing an old wooden ladder into a fun and playful outdoor planter.

Bold backsplashes

Ordinary subway tiles are a thing of the past – spring is a time to revive your design palette, and a stylish backsplash is key to adding character to your kitchen.

Modernise the classic monochrome with an infusion of geometric shapes for a stylish yet retro feel, or experiment with a daring pop of colour to fully indulge in the bold backsplash trend. We’re loving marble-print backsplashes – this versatile pattern can perfectly complement both vintage-style art-deco interiors and kitchens with a sleeker, modern feel.
